My granddaughter and I walked around the yard taking pictures of pretty flowers. She takes a pretty good picture for a two year old. It is astounding how much kids know and can do at extremely young ages. Now that she is three, she calls me on the phone quite often. I think I was ten before I was allowed to answer the phone, much less make a call. Living in an electronic world kids can operate many items that give adults the fits. That's because kids are fearless when it comes to punching buttons...they keep punching until they get the desired result. Never under-estimate a two year old when operating electronics.

Great Wedding

This past week we attended a lovely wedding. The bride chose to use peacock feathers and ribbons in rich hues of teal, turquoise, mauve, and navy for the decorations. Atop each layer of the wedding cake was a peacock.

The Spring Ballroom is located in Iota, Louisiana on what used to be an old pump house used for growing rice. It was reinvented and now is a beautiful place for weddings.

A candy bar was set up between the two regular drink bars. A candy bar holds glasses of different kinds of yummy candy. You are supposed to get a bag and select the kinds of candy you like.
Very pretty wedding and quite different. We had a blast!

Watering Plants Again

Today was water the plants day...cause they were really thirsty. I was holding off until the last possible streak of daylight before watering because I was positive it was going to rain. It stayed overcast all day but not one drop of moisture fell. When watering near twilight the mosquitoes will drain a pint of blood from you without you really noticing they are biting. All of a sudden your ankles will start to sting and upon closer inspection you will see ten to fifteen little whelps. By that time it is too late to swat. My grandma used to pour Dr. Tishners over the bites. It felt much better and had that fresh breath flavor too. It was only when I was older that I realized that Dr. Tishners is an antiseptic.

So my advise for healthy pot plants: grab your hose, stock up on Dr. Tishners, and water on!

Dirt Cheap

Amy, Marcy, and I went shopping at Dirt Cheap in Bologusa and Franklinton. Wow did we ever find some great buys. I bought two TV stands for less than 60 dollars. I got a Ninja to make slushies for around 20 dollars. All the things for purchase are damages or discontinued items at 50, 60, 70, 80, and 90 percent off. It is a lot of fun to dig through stuff and see if it works. Even though the packages are torn, dirty, and sometimes missing the stuff is still usable. Often an item will have a small scratch or dent but works. The most fun though is purchasing a shopping basket loaded with merchandise for 10 dollars. In one of those baskets you might find some broken unusable items but for the most part you get a surprise. Amy got a working Shark steam mop, a Shark cordless vac, tire cleaner, trash can, hot pot holder, router, and too many other things I can't remember. Marcy got a shredder, pot with a plant, headphone, 3 mesh bags, a pressure washer, a hair dryer, and lots of other things. Now that is dirt cheap!

Homemade Fountain

One of my favorite things is the sound of tinkling water in a fountain. I perused the net for a fountain for my back patio but the size that I desired was extremely out of my price range. My sister had an old plastic swimming pool sand filter housing which I broke apart, spray painted blue, stopped the holes, and filled with water. I had some circular tiles which I stacked in the filter housing and ran tubbing through to the pot. The concrete pot was also spray painted blue. I put a piece of hardware cloth in the top of the pot and added rocks on top of that so that the water would sound cooler. The water sprays up through the tubbing spilling back in the pot and running back down into the larger container making the sound much louder. The only real cost for the project was the tubbing, paint, and pump from Lowes.

Fears

My biggest fear is getting Alzheimer's disease. I was getting ready to go shopping at Walmart and making my list. I thought of several things I needed but when I started to write them on my list, I couldn't remember at all what they were. That is a scary feeling. There are many times I go to do something and forget what I am doing. I think it is because I am too stressed all the time. At least that is what I hope it is...

Weeding The Easy Way

The cooler overcast day allowed me to finish spraying for weeds. Soon the overgrowth will be history. I use a product called the Eraser. Wow! What an amazing discovery. It takes the weeds out in about two weeks and they stay dead until fall. I only have to spray a couple times a year.

Still, my legs and back are aching...it's tough to haul a gallon sprayer.

Rough Day

Some days are smooth as glass and others are rough like road gravel. This was a day heaped with gravel. I woke up late with my little finger hurting. I have arthritis which flares from time to time...almost every day.

It is above 90 degrees in the shade but I decided to spray for weeds anyway. I was only outside about 30 minutes when the sweat was dripping in my eyes. I have a sprayer that won't turn off. You have to release the pressure to get it to stop spraying and then it sprays you. Then you have to shower again to remove the spray.

Being it was too hot outside to do anything, I decided to start working out with the Wii. However the dog peed in the playroom so I had to clean that mess up before I could start to workout. I ran into the door facing while trying to get a cloth an skinned my arm. I started boo hooing because I wasted 30 minutes and hadn't worked out at all. Finally I dried it up an worked out for the first time since Christmas. I made it all the way through the workout. So I did feel some success after all.

Summer Vacation

Today everybody including teenagers have a blog. This is my first. I don't know that I will have anything to share that anyone else would want to know, but I have always had the desire to write and write and write. When I was about 8 I got my first typewriter for Christmas. I wrote so much that first day my fingers were sore. If you are looking for a polished professional blog...keep on looking because this isn't it. My interests are varried and range from crafts and hobbys to gardening, decorating, weight loss, beauty tips, photography and scrapbooking, to organizational skills. I won't be talking about the same thing every day. I'll be writing about what interests me at the moment. My interests change from day to day. I sure hope I can entertain you and keep your interest.

Summer vacation is the sweetest part of life. Days when you can stay in your night gown all day, play on the computer and watch TV, all without one speck of guilt. That is how I spent today. Yeah Me!

My cousin called today to get me to look at a cool website: http://www.simply-modest.com/posecom/index.php They have the coolest bathing suits. It was a tough decision selecting the one I thought would look good on me since I have gained a ton of weight recently. This suit is my inspiration to start exercising, eating more veggies, and loose 15 pounds. I started today by eating a great salad, zuchinni, green peas, pinto beans, and pork chops.

Tomorrow I plan to start the Wii exercise program that I purchased from Target a few weeks ago. I tried using it a day or two after I got it but due to having surgery I couldn't use it without a lot of pain so I put it off. Now tomorrow is the "day"!
